The bidding had reached $600. Joel always frequented eBay for Pokémon memorabilia (though he could rarely afford anything) and this was, in his mind, the holy grail- a Lucario fursuit.
Whenever Joel when to a convention, he was always envious of those magnificent costumes. His best friend, Carl, had a suit (a Zoroark suit to be exact) and they had always wanted to go to a con in costume together. Yet Joel only worked at a fast food restaurant; thus making it hard for Joel to earn enough money to buy a costume that was made well. It had taken him months to save up money from work and proceeds from selling his old video games to save up money to buy a decent suit.
However this suit wasn't just decent, it was flawless. When Joel saw the bidding was still so low for this suit- he wonderered if there was something wrong with it. Luckily, the suit didn't have any problems- the suit's dimensions would even fit him perfectly! Joel jumped at the chance to bid, though he was almost sure he would run out of money to bid in the end.
The bidding was now at $625 and Joel shakily raised it to $655. Instantly, someone appearently tried to eliminate most of the competition, raising the bid to $1000. Joel slumped over in his seat, he only had saved up $1320. He sighed, raising the auction to that amount. Much to Joel's suprize, nobody seemed to be bidding. The auction only had a few seconds left, and it looked like the people he was bidding against were more broke than he was! Joel almost screamed with joy when he saw that he had really won the auction, he'd get his suit in at the most three weeks.
Ecstatic, Joel logged into his favorite online chat service and messaged Carl:
Lucario_Man48: hey buddy!

Joel could hardly stand the three week wait for his suit. Joel felt tortured, but optimistic. Finally, one day, a large brown package was delivered to his apartment. Joel grabbed the package and ran to Carl's house. "Are you going to open it or what?" Asked Carl after letting his friend into his house. Joel nodded, removing the tape and opening the box.
"Holy crap!" Cried Joel, pulling out the head of the suit, "it's stunning!" The faux fur was soft to the touch and the head was beautifully sculpted. "That's awesome" said Carl, admiring the costume "you lucked out getting that". Joel nodded, pulling out the body and laying it out. The zipper was barely noticeable on the back and that was only just one nice feature. The suit felt soft, and when he would get in, he'd feel comfortable. The spikes on the chest and paws looked stunning and the paws themselves looked like they were real. "Should I put it on?" Asked Joel. Carl nodded.
Joel slid his legs into the suit. The fabric was cool and felt unreal. He wiggled his toes, and the digits of the paw responded. Then he pulled the suit over his torso and slid his arms into the paws of the suit. He tested walking around in the body of the costume, finding it very comfortable. "Could you zip up my back Carl?" Asked Joel, realizing was supposed to zip it up a bit earlier. Carl nodded, pulling the small zipper up with a crisp "ziiiip". Joel then grabbed the lucario head and fastened it on to the neck of the suit. "How do I look?" He asked, surprised to find that the suit's jaw was hinged so it moved as he talked. "Awesome!" Cried Carl, who had run to get his Zoroark suit. "Hold on buddy," said Carl "let me put mine on".
Once Carl put his suit on, the two went for a walk. They got a lot of stares, but other people complimented their costumes, a couple people even asked for pictures with them! Joel had already loved wearing his suit, but this little excursion elevated that feeling. Once the two got back to Carl's house, the sun was already setting. Carl took if his suit and threw on sweat pants and a t-shirt (he was only in his underwear). Joel was having trouble with his zipper, and Carl went over to help. "Heh heh, you'll get the hang of it buddy" he said as he began looking for my zipper. "Joel!" He cried "there isn't a zipper!"
Joel went pale inside the suit and cried "p-pull off the head!" Frantically, Carl tried too- but instead of the head coming off, the pain of someone yanking on large ears shook through Joel. "Ow, ow, ow!" he howled at Carl as he stopped pulling. Joel yelped as he felt shocks of energy course through me. The eye sockets of the head grew shut, then opened moments after- but different. Joel's vision was… odd, he could see the energy of things around him! "Aura reading!" Gasped Joel as he saw through his new eyes. He felt his face contort and squeeze as the suit and his head merged. Suddenly Joel's ears twitched as the two jacal-like appendages sprung to life. The hinged mouth became real too, as Joel learned when he whimpered from the shocks. "This is crazy!" Cried Carl as he grasped for any sign of a zipper, realizing Joel's fur, felt like dog fur (and smelled like it too). Joel's paws twitched as they gained motor function and he was able to articulate each digit. The Lucario tail that hung behind him began to swish slowly back and forth, on Joel's comand. Sharp cracks altered the bone structure of Joel's legs, making him stand on the equivilent of what used to be the tips of his toes. However Joel no longer had toes, he had three digits on each now very real foot paws. The electric current now grew very sharp as Joel shrunk about two feet, Carl seemed very tall to him. All of Joel's energy had been sapped out, and the Lucario crashed to the floor.
Joel came to a couple hours later. "Wh-what happened?" Growled Joel in a deeper, more rough voice. "Take a look" sighed Carl, gesturing to the mirror. A Lucario was seated next to Carl on the floor, or at least that's what Joel saw. "This can't be happening!" Joel cried jumping to his paws, "people can't see me like this, Pokémon don't exist!" Almost on cue, a blinding flash of light enveloped the room and once it faded, the two were in a medow.
The surrounding area was breath taking. A small stream trickled towards their right, and trees with pink, blue, yellow, and red berries grew all around them. A small brown creature, which the two recognized to be an Eevee, was drinking from the stream. "Lu!" Whispered Joel, surprised to find his voice replaced with a Lucario's cry. Carl frowned "great were in a different world and now you can't talk! Unless… you can communicate telepathically, can't some Pokémon do that?" Joel shrugged as he tried to communicate "You hear me Carl" he thought, focusing the thought at his friend. "Yeah…" said Carl, relieved he could understand him "but now what. The Lucario sat there, trying to think of something, when a grin appeared on his muzzle "We could challenge the gyms in whatever region we're in…" Carl looked surprised and replied "you're right! Lets do this!" The Lucario howled with excitement as the two started to make their way out of the forest.
